The dumbest generation.

Mark Bauerlein states that kids these days are not reading enough books but instead they are going on the internet to watch videos, read blogs and contact their friends. Although kids can read news, they choose to read what they want to read about.
This is not true. The majority of people may not read books anymore but that does not mean we stop reading. A lot of people are reading from the internet now.
Furthermore, parents and teachers should take children out to useful places like visiting the museum, learning about other cultures, learning a foreign language and kids should be given a chance to take part in outside school activities.

This generation, kids are using the internet incorrectly. Instead of using it for research, and getting useful information, they watch videos, read blogs, and contact their friends on it. Nearly every kid uses slang, as they use it in communication. Most of the kids who are in ninth grade do not make it to twelfth grade.
However, we can’t blame it all on the kids, teachers and parents are supposed to make sure that the kids are doing their work properly, like using the internet for the right purpose, and making sure that they are doing their homework instead of watching videos or reading blogs on the internet.

Parents and teachers complain that kids are not bright, reading enough books, reading the news, using limited vocabulary, not being able to spell properly, using slang (due to instant messaging), not writing strong enough arguments in their assignments and contacting people on the internet. Parents and teachers criticize children for this, which is not right. Instead of criticizing, they should encourage children, and support them by giving them supplementary work to help them get better because criticizing de-motivates children and therefore, they will give up instead of trying harder and improving themselves.

In my opinion, if we had to find out about something given a choice to use the internet or books, why would you want to go through a whole stack load of books, which may take hours finding the information you are looking for instead of using high-speed internet? Doesn’t it save so much more time?

In conclusion, Bauerlein says that as kids grow older, they would not be able to get a job due to reasons as I said earlier on like our vocabulary is not good enough, not writing good enough, and not reading enough books but using our time to go on facebook and instant messaging therefore we are dumb. This is false. It does not mean that you cannot be successful just because you are young. Take Bill Gates for example, he found Microsoft Windows whilst he was still in college. Yet now he is one of the richest people in the world. This proves that we are not the dumbest generation.

Wow Sutinie, this is a very well crafted and convincing argument. You have used the facts collected in a very persuasive manner by grouping them together. Fantastic effort for your first blog and top marks : )
