The Dumbest Generation?

Mark Bauerlein states that the younger generation, anyone under the age of 30, are classed as the 'Dumbest Generation'. He thinks this because apparently we spend too much time stuck on computers, we don't read enough books, we can't spell and according to scientists research, we can't store the information.

Spending time on a computer can constist of researching, chatting, learning and many more things. Mark Bauerline says that teenagers spend too much time chatting that it can affect our spelling and the way we choose to speak to people. Today, the number of text messages sent and received exceed the total world population of the planet. But really, the shorthand speech that is used in chatting is only used in chatting online and texting because it is more convenient to us.

Infact, most of the time, people under the age of 30 are usually using the internet to research. Is the internet really that bad? Can it affect our mind so badly that we do actually become the dumbest generation? Well i think not. The internet is full of usful information that we can store in our head. There are over 31 billion searches on Google every month. If we were really that dumb, we wouldn't be able to tell what information was useful and which was not.

Books. People read books because they enjoy it. Some people need to read books becuase they are learning the language or want to improve their reading skills. To be honest, I think that teenagers at this age and people under the age of 30 don't really need to improve their reading skills. All the time everyday people are reading, whether its off the TV, in the newspaper or even on the computer screen on a chat window.

Are we 'dumb' because we use the internet more to research rather than using a book and find notes to research? Or is it simply because it it faster and more efficient? Yes it faster and more efficient, and that is why more and more people each year uses the internet more often to do research.

Just because we are younger it doesn't necessarily mean that we are the 'dumbest' generation. There may be some things that look as if they make us dumb or that the things we do are lazy but if you look at them from different perspectives, we really aren't as stupid as you think we are.
