Mark Bauerlein said that our generation (under 30’s) is the 'Dumbest Generation'. Is this correct? Are we less knowledgeable than Adults when they were young? Bauerlein said that the introduction of the new technology such as Internet has made us ‘Dumbest’.
First, Mark Bauerlein mentioned that children now use the words that can be identified but spellings are totally wrong. For example, has anyone seen the word ‘u’ used in e-mail which represents ‘you’ in simpler way? This is what Bauerlein is saying. Young people now don’t spell the word correctly and it seems like he dislike this. However, this is the language developed by a younger generations. We can say that this came from the imagination of them. It is easier to use, spell and also people would understand what people are trying to say. They use e-mail or blog more freely but efficiently. Now it is certain that those ‘Non-correctly spelled words’ are getting used to by people.
Secondly, Mark Bauerlein said that we read less by the introduction of the modern technology like Internet, TV, games etc. This is true. We read less ‘books’ because we use internet, watch TV and play games more often. However, it is also true we read while we are using the Internet (let’s not think about TV or Games). We can read news, others’ blog post (like we do now) and we research using the internet. There are a lot of educational websites for example, BBC schools. Internet is not always bad for us. It does not mean that we are ‘The Dumbest’ just because we use the internet more often.
He also mentioned that we study less that we are getting more stupid. However, it is the teachers’ responsibility to lead them to study so they can walk towards the bright future. Furthermore, it is parent’s responsibility to teach them the manner and make them do homework. It is also true that we need to take care of ourselves but adults can support children so they can feel easy. I believe that this will lead them in a good way.
I think, adults now are way too short sighted. I mean that they would say ‘Your future would not be what I expected’ when they see our exam results (if they are really bad). It is not good to treat children like this. This can make children worried and shocked. We are still young and easily broken like a vase. Adults should understand that we grow and learn in different ways to them. Increase in use of internet is part of our development. Our future depends on us and people around us who can give a support to us. Now I want to say that we are not ‘The Dumbest Generation’ but we are ‘The Most Unique Generation’.

I agree with Yuta's view of it is parent's responsibility to be teaching younger generation the manner. However I have a slightly different view on whether it is all parent's responsibility to be making children do their work because personally I am the one who make myself do homework and I believe many of us do so.
I agree that using the Instant message code can be much more efficient in chatting online because it saves a lot more time.
I agreee with wei hsiang but it is parents responsibility if we didn't even try to do our homework.
