Last lesson, we have discussed about "digital devices deprive brain of needed downtime''. According to that article, scientists said that the excessive use of technology may cause stress on people, make them harder to focus on something, damage our brains a lot... and morever, it even is akin to an addiction. I myself and many people who has had many times using technology more than 8 hours a day would believe that these great scientists are totally right. However, even thought they have already known these consequences, they still found it so hard to shut down all of them. Today, we continue to talk about this, about the high prices we have to pay due to our overusing technology in life. After reading the two articles, I found that there are two such totally opposite examples for this which surprised me most.
One of those examples was about a 8-year old name Lily whose parent provided her an Ipod touch, a portable DVD player and a laptop. This story is so hard to believe for such a lilltle girl but it's totally true. Even I'm 7 years older than her but I couldn't have all of them. May be her parent are so busy to play with her that they bought her those things in hope that they would be her entertainment tool, but aren't they?! The answer is NO and more worse, her parent have to pay a price for it that when they holler her name but she didn't hear because she was playing video games, listening to music and stuff on her own devices. That's just the consequence happening now. For a developing girl like Lily, that constant digital stimulation like this creates attention problems for children with brain in the future. In my opinion, I think it's really bad for her parent to continue doing so. There are so many ways ways to ler their children entertain happily, healthily, joyfully such as hanging out with friends, taking part in school activities,...
I've just written an example of the overusing technology of teenager. So what about our parents, the adults, how they use techonology in their lives,...? I think it's not better than teenager much. For example, while Mrs Campbell was baking peanut butter cookies, she ran out the kitchen and answered a text on her phone and then signed on Facebook, forgot the being-burnt lovely cakes. She decided to make new cakes again and then, she did exactly her same mistakes and lost all her cookies again. Once again, the excessive use of technology made her feel less focused and has trouble completing projects and even be so silly.
Through these two surprising and shockig examples, the consequences of overusing technology are shown clearly and we might have a new view of it.However, we still have to admit the advandtages of technology. They made our lives better and our jobs much easier. That's the result we will receive if we know how to use them in the right way.So let's make technology be a friend of us, not a addiction or our dependant tool.
