Bloody Jack's advice to Jimmy

At the end of chapter 5, there is a small conversation between Bloody Jack and Jimmy on how should Jimmy respond to his current situation. Yet, Bloody Jack is the only mature person that Jimmy can talk about his problems but Jack doesn't give much of a good advice. He seems to be experienced but not very helpful at the same time.

Bloody Jack's advice for Jimmy is fairly straight forward:"don't care". He sees things as if you ignore them then you don't have to worry about them anymore, they will just simply disappear from your mind. This is not true because you are just acting, lying to yourself and you can't keep up with all the lies forever. It is not a good idea to tell an 11 years old kid to turn his back on his life or his troubles because all the worries, thoughts and rage will build up slowly inside him, waiting to explode. This is shown in the beginning of Chapter 1- the way jimmy reacts toward life; so reckless and full of anger like there isn't any worthy reason for him to live. Jimmy has mentioned the phrase "don't care" 11 times in just chapter 1.Thus,there is a distinct connection between Jimmy way of living and jack's advice. The advice Bloody Jack gives jimmy certainly doesn't have a positive effect on the boy.

On the other hand, Bloody Jack gives Jimmy, somewhat a good explanation to his present circumstance." Little boys don't understand what is going on, and perhaps they should not pay attention." - Jimmy isn't suppose to listen to all the fights and arguments between his parents as they definitely are not appropriate for his age and, indeed, has brought him anxiety. Plus, Bloody Jack doesn't think Jimmy has make up the story or suspect him like all the others do "You're hearing right, I don't doubt a second." This somehow gives him some courage and at least shows Jimmy that there are people out there who may share the experience with him and he is not isolated.

Bloody Jack seems to be acknowledged in this kind of stuff. He understands well how Jimmy feels-" worried myself nearly sick"- but Bloody Jack doesn't take into account that his position and Jimmy position is totally different.Jimmy is not ready for the complication that is happening between his parents as he is just an innocent kid. "That was silly, her getting sick, and he blaming her for getting sick" - this is the only trigger Jimmy comes up with as the cause of all the "talking back and forth" between his parents. It is true that there is nothing much you can tell a little boy to do but there are better ways to advice them. For instant, he can tell Jimmy that he is always here to listen to all of jimmy's trouble and Jimmy should also talk to his parents about how he really feels.

Thus, after the conversation with Bloody Jack, Jimmy may comprehends the fact that things between adults, children can't always work out what really happens and the best way is just try to avoid it at much as possible. Though, there is a chance that Jimmy may reacts negatively to life after listens to Jake's advice. He may turns into a reckless boy who always tries to run away from the truth.

Lynn,

You discuss some interesting points. What you have pointed out about Bloody Jack's advice and the more appropriate kind of advice he should be giving is insightful.

If Bloody Jack were to suggest that he try to speak to them about it or someone else, perhaps Jimmy would have a bit more understanding of the situation. It is important that he knows that what is happening is not his fault.

Unfortunately his parents are so busy fighting they do not realise how it might be affecting Jimmy.

Your analysis shows depth of thought, good effort Lynn. Could you please edit your sentence structure and tenses.

I also wanted to add that you have done a very detailed analysis of the question and looked at the problem from many different perspectives,

Keep up the good work : )
