On chapter 6, jimmy is finding his comfort and finally sharing the fact that his parents are always having fights and arguments, and his situation at home. With the response of bloody jack giving his advices about the situation at hand. Through his conversation with jimmy, in my opinion it’s been shown that bloody jack is having a hard time in a way of giving his advices.
At this stage jimmy is a confused boy, his parents are fighting and weird situations are occurring. He’s to young to understand the problems that has been with him since. So by having to talk and share his feelings to the only person he knows he can tell (Bloody jack) is a good thing. Even though with the experience of Bloody jack has, jimmy finds his comfort and shares his feelings.
When Jimmy approaches Bloody Jack for help, Bloody Jack tells Jimmy that “Little boys don’t understand what is going on, and perhaps they should not pay attention.” This is a prudent advice as by ignoring everything happening at home, Jimmy could be more at peace. This shows that Bloody Jack has sound judgment. However, jimmy does not follow jacks advice initially as it comes from jack although it is good on theory. It was a good thing that bloody jack told jimmy that he shouldn’t be hearing things that doesn’t concern him, because from my point of view jimmy could be misinterpreting the situation which just leads him questioned and worried.
From the advices Bloody jack is giving, we have a feeling that Bloody jack might have gone through what jimmy is experiencing through his leading questions “you’ve got troubles the way I didn’t expect, young’un.” And by telling jimmy to not care “don’t worry or care” this might show that bloody jack has taken this advice and probably wanted jimmy to follow his actions. Bloody jack may not be aware of some of the negative advices he’s giving, so later on these advices of his could play a major role and affect the way jimmy will think.
In conclusion, from the bad ones to the good advices that bloody jack has presented, these advices could at least help for a little while till he is mature enough to know how to handle it himself and for now it could ease jimmy’s curiosity towards his issues with what’s going on at home. I can’t say whether these are positive or negative advices because although he said positive ones the negative ones could be helpful on the long run.
