I think that Bloody jack gave the best advice he could have Jimmy because in that situation there wasn't much he could have said to Jimmy.
One day or another Jimmy has to find out about his parents but not now because he's too young to understand so what Bloody Jack said is only a matter of time before Jimmy finds out. Jimmy has to wait until he gets older and is old enough to find out about his parents so that he could understand them and not have anymore question about their fight?
But Jimmy can't always decide what he wants to hear or see so he will see or hear his parents fighting and he's a clever boy so he might get some wrong ideas because of his imagination about the reason behind all the fighting and could start to hate his parents. He is mature enough to understand certain things but not fully so that might also be a problem if he hears or sees his parents fighting again.
So Bloody Jack's advice also has a down side but I think it's the best advice someone can give to a kid who you don't know that well and that have problems at home.
