What do you think of the advice that Bloody Jack gives to Jimmy?

I think that the advice that Bloody Jack gives to Jimmy isn't really that helpful. But, on the otherhand, I think that for a person of Jimmy's age, it's quite difficult to give advice and to try and help them, so I think that it would give him a little confidence and giving him more advice.

On page 50, Bloody Jack told Jimmy 'Then just don't care...see nothing, hear nothing...'.

It sounds like Bloody Jack is trying to tell Jimmy that he needs to ignore everything to make him not worry. I think this is a bad thing because to solve things that have gone wrong, you have to do something about the situation, not ignore it. If Jimmy was to ignore it, it would be quite painful for him to block out all the bad things that happen in his home because it is very hard for people like us to just completely forget about things that are always there. He was trying to tell Jimmy that he has to move on with things that have happened but i feel that it's unfair for someone as young as him to go through things like his parents argueing the whole time, so I think that something has to be done about it.

On the other hand, I feel that Bloody Jack has had enough experience to know how Jimmy feels and therefore knows the best advice to give him. We know this when he says in the 3rd paragraph on page 51, 'I worried a long time ago about my wife. All of thirty years ago it must be. Worried myself nearly sick'. I think that maybe he is trying to make Jimmy not feel worried about anything any more because he has been through a sililar thing. Like I said before, Bloody Jack might be trying to help Jimmy forget all the bad things and just block them out of his life.

Rebecca,

Your post shows that you have understood the dialogue well. The quotations you have chosen to highlight are well selected and your analysis of them is sound. Your opinion is communicated coherently, well done Rebecca.
